Round #3 DH Nationals, Thredbo

After being blasted by the fire hose at thredbo apartments to remove the thick muddy sludge from me and my bike which became the afternoon routine for most riders, we walked over to the bottom of the track to watch the finals of the 19's and elite.

Each rider that came down resembaled that of flying balls of mud, race kits and bikes unrecognizable. In 19's Aiden Wyber took the win, last rider in 19's Troy Brosnen was expected to take the lead but was well of the pace.

Elite women was won by Claire Buchar ahead of Jill Kintner.

Mens final was interesting as Will Rischbieth one of the faster guys had problems in seeding so he would go off first in the finals. He took the hot seat straight away and watched at least 50 riders cross the line, in the meantime he looked happy to be crusin around the finish on and old school chopper bike 'the hot seat'.

Ben Cory came down and set a time that knocked Bryn Atkinson out of the hot seat, but there were still three riders to grace the finish line, Amiel Cavalier, Chris Kovarik and Joshua Button. With Amiel crossing well off Ben Corys pace it was Chris to cross the line next. Second place in seeding saw Chris as a threat to Corys time, and he looked to be, with a fast time but it wasn’t enough, placing him into provisional fourth. Last rider down the mud caked hill was Josh Button.

Josh had the fastest time in qualifying, faster than Corys time in finals, but the track had changed and times were slower than the previous day in seeding. Josh gave it all he had crossing the finish but it wasn’t enough placing him into 6th.

The final standings were as follows: Ben Cory 1st, Bryn Atkinson 2nd, Shaun O’Connor 3rd, Chris Kovarik 4th.

Round #2 DH Nationals, Shepp

What a weekends worth of racing. The new track on the national calendar proved to be testing for most riders with steep chutes, off chamber corners and rock drops. With no berms in sight and no significant jumps the track was easy on the eye but when riding, it was a sketchy track that claimed many riders with some, serious injuries. Elite men’s racing was won by Cris Kovarik who was coming off a win at the national champs in Adelaide, dominated the weekend having the fastest seeding time and took out the elite men’s final by nearly 4 seconds. Second was Shaun O'Conner ahead of Amiel Cavalier who holds the leaders jerseys going into Thredbo next round. Rick Boyer took 5th behind Rhys Atkinson in 4th.

Troy Brosnen won 19's convincingly ahead of Aden Wyber in second.

Elite women’s final was won by Claire Buchar wife of Kovarik, husband and wife take the double win.

Congratulations to all place getters and Rick Boyer whose name we like to see towards the top, yeew!

Next round is in Thredbo, always a favorite amongst riders.
