Round #1 DH Nationals, Tassie

Round #1 of the national series was held on the 13 Dec in Glenorchy MTB park in Tasmania.
The track was preety blown out come race day but that didn't effect race times too much.

In the elite mens some brilliant racing was witnessed by spectators, when Rhys Atkinson came down with a slightly faster time (3:16.24) than Will Rischbieth's top seeding time of 3:16.99,
every one was anxious to see what the top seeding guys would do.
After a few guys down Rhys was still in the hot seat, when Ricky Boyer came, he skipped the 3:15's and went straight to the hot seat with a time of 3:14.96! The crowed came off there some what grassy seats and onto their feet cheering.
Shaun O'connor later filled the gap between Rick and Rhys time with 3:15.62. Ben Cory was next to claim the hot seat after a blazing run of 3:13.55, over a full second faster than Ricks!
Every one was now waiting, gazing towards the top hill at the tree line to see Amiel Cavalier burst through the trees and down the track, and he did just that! Crossing the line quicker than Rick Boyer but just shy of Ben Cory's blinding run. With a time of 3:14.13.
The leader board was as follows; Rick Boyer 3rd, Amiel Cavalier 2nd, Ben Cory 1st.
With the provisional leaders just seconds faster then Will Rischbieth, the the fastest in seeding, will he be able to loose that extra time to take the win? The question was on everyone's mind.
With everyone's eyes again on the tree line, Will appears out of the trees looking to be on the money, but the clock said otherwise. Will crosses the line with a time just off Boyers, 3:15.09.

Ben Cory is the winner of round #1 ahead of Ameil Cavalier in 2nd and Rick Boyer in 3rd.
Well done to Ben on his win, and Rick Boyer on 3rd, a local of Newcastle!

Also congrats to David Badman on 1st in the Masters division also a local.

Next round is in Shepparton, Vic Stay tuned!
